Watch out for

  • The FX-888D is discontinued. Hakko's global site labels it discontinued, and the current FX-888DX keeps T18 tips on its standard FX-8801 iron. Tom's Hardware's 2026 list still picks the FX-888D, so check which model a listing actually sells.
  • T18 does not fit every FX-888DX iron. The optional FX-8805 large iron uses T19 tips, and the FX-8806 high-power iron, made only for the FX-888DX, uses T32 tips.
  • Quote the spec table. American Hakko's feature banner says 50-450°C, but its spec table lists 50-480°C (120-899°F) for the FX-888DX.

Who it suits: readers who want an established branded station with a long tip range and a US 120 V model, for Arduino and starter kits and general through-hole work. If you prefer a heater-in-tip design, compare the cartridge systems such as T12 and C245.

Buying: we do not list a Hakko station or T18 tips yet. Buy from an authorized Hakko dealer, and treat unusually cheap "Hakko" stations or tips with suspicion.
