Short answer
T12 is Hakko's cartridge tip with the heater and temperature sensor built in, made for its FM-2027 and FM-2028 irons. Hakko sells the same range as T15 in North America and Europe, so expect a T15 part number on a genuine Hakko tip bought in the US or Canada. Many marketplace "T12" stations and tips come from other brands: they take the same format, but Hakko's figures do not apply to them.
Key facts
- Original maker
- Hakko; other brands sell T12-format tips and stations[1][2][3]Sequre lists T12-format tips and QUICKO lists T12 stations. These are Hakko T12-compatible, not Hakko parts.
- Rated power
- 70 W at 24 V (Hakko FM-2027/FM-2028 iron)[4]Hakko's figure for its own iron. T12-format stations publish their own ratings.
- Handle / iron
- Hakko FM-2027 and FM-2028 irons; third-party T12-format handles[4][5][3]Hakko's FX-950 station (FM-2028 iron) is marked discontinued as of April 2025; Hakko names the FX-971 as its successor.
- Typical use
- General bench soldering, with fast heat recovery from the heater-in-tip design[5]Hakko credits the built-in heater and sensor with greatly improved thermal recovery, allowing lower set temperatures. The general-purpose label is our summary, not Hakko's.
- 120 V / North America
- Sold by Hakko as the T15 series in North America[1]Hakko: T12 series for Japan, Oceania, Asia and other countries; T15 series for North America and Europe.
Watch out for
- T12 versus T15 is regional naming. Hakko sells the cartridge range as T12 in Japan, Asia, Oceania and other countries and as T15 in North America and Europe. Both fit Hakko's FM-2027 and FM-2028 irons.
- "T12" on a marketplace listing describes a format, not a brand. A T12 station from another brand takes T12-format tips but is not a Hakko product. American Hakko advises buying Hakko products only from authorized distributors and says most authentic sellers are in the US and Canada, selling 120 V products.
- Hakko's specs stay with Hakko. The 70 W rating and the under-2-ohm, under-2-mV tip-to-ground figures belong to Hakko's own FM-2027/FM-2028 iron. A T12-format handle or station has to publish its own.
- Check the voltage variant. The KSGER listing below names both 110 V and 220 V versions under one product. The US Department of Energy puts US outlets at 110-120 V, so choose the 110 V version.

Its tips are T12-format (Hakko T12-compatible), not made by Hakko. The AliExpress store is named KSGER Official Store, but we found no KSGER website confirming it. A KSGER notice quoted on the EEVblog forum says its stations moved from an STM32 to an MM32 chip from December 2021, so ask the seller which chip ships.

T12 or C245? Both are cartridge systems, and neither fits the other's handle. Lean toward C245 if you often solder ground planes or heavy connectors, which JBC names as C245 jobs. The guide to T12 vs C245 soldering tips compares the two ecosystems.
Questions
Are T12 and T15 tips the same thing?
Hakko uses both names for one cartridge range: T12 for Japan, Asia, Oceania and other countries, and T15 for North America and Europe. Both fit Hakko's FM-2027 and FM-2028 irons. Third-party "T12" tips are T12-format cartridges from other makers, not Hakko parts.[1][4]
Why do T12 tips recover heat so quickly?
Hakko builds the heating element and the temperature sensor into the tip itself. It says this gives superior thermal responsiveness and greatly improved thermal recovery, so you can often work at a lower set temperature.[5]
Is a T12 station from another brand a Hakko product?
No. It takes T12-format tips, but it is not made by Hakko. American Hakko warns that counterfeits can copy Hakko's designs, colors and even its logo, and advises buying only from authorized Hakko dealers.[8]
